Who we need

Reporting to, and working in partnership with, the Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer we are looking for a Manager, Talent with experience deploying Talent Programs and Strategic Planning. You will have a direct role in executing the strategy for innovative talent acquisition, development, and management initiatives. You will lead the full life cycle recruitment efforts in Canada. You will work closely with all stakeholders to understand the needs of the business - and proactively meet those needs through effective workforce planning. You will collaborate with your HR colleagues, peers, and our external recruitment partner to identify and attract great talent and ultimately deliver the best client and candidate experience.

Career development. We're growing our teams across the business and building out our organization through mergers and acquisitions. With that growth will come the opportunity to try new things and express interest in gaining exposure and taking the lead on initiatives including onboarding, employee relations, learning and development, or owning a more significant piece of the strategy building. 

What you will focus on 

Talent acquisition. You will own and spearhead day-to-day management of recruitment and reporting. You will:

  • Partner with the Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer to execute our Talent Acquisition Strategy.
  • Collaborate with your colleagues in Human Resources and other functions to support broad-based talent strategies, recruitment processes, workforce planning, and customized onboarding plans.
  • Liaise with external recruitment partners to implement and optimize hiring and brand strategy.
  • Work with the recruitment and HR team at Securian.
  • Coordinate talent management needs based on new acquisitions; manage onboarding as a result of M&A.
  • Develop and deliver training to leaders and managers on recruitment and hiring practices, including interview skills and employee value proposition.
  • Monitor and measure the results of the Talent Acquisition Strategy to ensure it is meeting the organizational imperatives, presenting regular updates and reports to demonstrate progress and impacts.

Talent development. You will lead the implementation of talent development strategy and other talent management programs. You will: 

  • Support internal talent development through the employment life-cycle.
  • Develop and implement an employee Onboarding Program.
  • Build Talent Management processes, knowledge and capability within the organization.
  • Develop and execute talent assessment plans in alignment with our strategy.
  • Support the implementation of the Company's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy.

What you bring 

The passion. You are deeply committed to building your career - and the effective, impactful function of a team and department - focused on Talent Acquisition and Human Resources. 
The education and experience. You have a university degree in a related field combined with 7+ years in talent acquisition, workforce planning, and talent programs, including building and executing end-to-end recruitment processes and strategies. You have exposure to the full spectrum of HR responsibilities.
The leadership. You have mentored and trained a team of recruiters, talent consultants, or junior HR specialists. You can expertly coach managers on the hiring process, interview skills, and skills assessment. You use a consultative approach to dive into the needs of your hiring managers, providing expertise in workforce planning and employee value proposition.
The project management skills. You have experience planning and coordinating projects from end to end. You are a creative problem solver, able to balance and change priorities, anticipate and respond to issues, and manage details. Your focus is on accomplishing every milestone, following processes and proactively resolving or circumventing issues.
The interpersonal skills. You have outstanding professional written, verbal, and presentation skills. You ask intelligent questions to obtain information, identify root causes, and determine solutions. You can build trusting relationships within and across teams and confidently work with any level of stakeholder. You have a genuine interest in understanding others, hearing their perspectives, and addressing their concerns. 
The accountability. You take ownership of your work and its impact on our success. You have the creativity and analytical approach to bring new ideas forward and productively challenge the status quo. You thrive in an evolving environment and step up to different challenges every day. As a result, you can seamlessly adapt to changes in priorities, the business, the talent landscape, and the industry.
The technical skills. You are highly proficient in MS Office and an HRIS.
