The opportunity  

As the Manager, HR Technology you will be at the forefront of Ryerson's HR transformation to evolve and innovate our IT functionality, reporting and analytics. By providing direction and support to the HR Technology team you will lead the way towards creating a culture of collaboration and partnership with stakeholders across the organization. You will be the bridge to translate business needs to IT systems functionality, acting as the interpreter who will help everyone speak the same language.    

The Manager, HR Technology provides day-to-day oversight and guidance for functional technology support, reporting and analytics delivery and project management.  This role is responsible for maintaining, designing and updating HR technology solutions,including ServiceNow and HR Enabling Technology.  The Manager oversees alignment of system functionality with business needs working with stakeholders across the organization and routinely reports on performance metrics and analyzes short term and long term needs for HR technology.  

The successful candidate will ensure continuity of delivery for new system-derived functionality to support Human Resources and the University along with continued support for existing (previously implemented) functionality based on the Oracle PeopleSoft HCM product line. This position manages continuous improvement, knowledge management and oversees all projects including the analysis, design, consultation, testing, implementation and support of Oracle PeopleSoft HCM functionality, based on a thorough understanding of the University's Academic, HR and IT organizational and strategic objectives

Key accountabilities:

  • Strategy execution:  Executes on the strategic priorities of Human Resources as it relates to Technology and Analytics. Accountable for the successful operations of the Technology team, in alignment with Ryerson's HR strategy and the HR technology roadmap
  • Functional technology support (HCM):  Provides guidance and oversight to enable the technology support team to manage Oracle PeopleSoft HCM and other planned enabling technology applications (Service Now, Learning Management system etc.) and coordinate ongoing technology enhancements and other technology functionality; Leads the implementation and continued support of new and existing system-based functionality of the University's eHR solution based on current Oracle PeopleSoft HCM product as well as implementation of ServiceNow. Identifies and selects strategies to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness while minimizing negative impacts on system users and administrators.
  • HR analytics and reporting: Provides guidance and oversight to the Operations & Technology team as required; ensures that in-scope HR reporting and analytics capabilities meet current business needs and develop recommendations/ initiatives to ensure capabilities meet future needs. Defines and monitors mechanisms for HR data governance, i.e., standardized definitions, conducts regular data audits of HR data, communicates data entry protocols, etc.
  • Project management:  Identifies and leads continuous improvement initiatives to continually improve processes and procedures. Ensures a positive experience for HR colleagues, leaders, managers and employees by leveraging feedback, data and regular reporting. Employs established IT project management practices and techniques, as well as past experience implementing enterprise business systems, to ensure that project deliverables are achieved on time, within budget and to specifications.
  • Operational services: Ensures the coordination of ongoing enhancements of ServiceNow and HR technology functionality. Works in partnership with HR Strategy & governance on ServiceNow content management strategy and governance. Ensures that knowledge management tools have high user acceptance and usage rates, regarding availability, functionality, access, etc.
  • People Management:  Oversees the hiring, coaching, performance management and development of staff, so that their full potential is actualized and their knowledge and skills are constantly updated.  Assesses training needs and participates in the development of specific plans in consultation with staff.  Seeks out opportunities to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion.


To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in an Information Technology Management, Computer Science or Business Program, or a degree in a Human Resources program combined with subsequent formal technical and systems training or experience with ERP products such as Oracle/PeopleSoft, and ServiceNow.
  • Significant experience leading HCM technology implementation and sustainment., including experience with Oracle Peoplesoft and Service Now.
  • Deep experience in translating HR business requirements into HCM/PeopleSoft application functionality, including project management, release management, process design, configuration and testing, preferably in a higher education or public sector organization.
  • Five or more (5+) years experience creating and managing Project Plans, Scope Statements, Requirements Documents, Release Management, etc. relating to Oracle PeopleSoft ERP systems.
  • Five or more (5+) years working with relational databases
  • Experience managing the design, development and implementation of HR technology solutions (LMS, ATS) and integration.
  • PMP certification and/or MBA preferred.
  • Manager, team lead or supervisory experience preferred.
