Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Director Labour Relations, the Labour Relations Advisor is responsible for providing guidance, direction and support to the Human Resources and Operations teams over various properties on matters relating to labour relations and best practices, including but not limited to greivance management, training, implementation of collective agreements and general best practices. This position will also be responsible for general administration relating to labour relation matters and will ensure adherence to the Company’s policies and procedures, motivates and leads by example and supports Great Canadian’s learning environment while establishing a safe and welcoming work environment for all team members and managment. This position will be based out of GTA or West GTA locations.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Acts as the first point of contact for site HR and management team for all labour relations matters
  • Supports Management team with ongoing coaching, mentoring and knowledge to effectively manage team members within a unionized environment
  • Coaches and guides Human Resources team members on matters relating to labour relations
  • Participates and assists in the collective bargaining process; includes preparation of materials, proposals, and finalizes collective agreements for review by various parties
  • Develops templates, guides and procedures relating to labour relations procedures
  • Provides general support including but not limited to assisting with collective agreement interpretation and application, research, preparing and/or reviewing general communication
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets information such as case law, reviewing precedents, arbitral jurisprudence and gathering related documentation as required
  • Supports site HR and Management during arbitration and mediation process; includes the preparation, collection and summation of materials
  • Delivers collective agreement and other labour relations training as needed
  • Maintains labour relations records and arranges for document storage and retrieval as needed
  • Track and analyze grievances for trends, potential issues with language; identifies opportunities for improvement. Generates grievance reports for regional management and senior leaders.
  • Builds strong working relationships with guests, team members and union representatives
  • Performs other duties as required

Education and Qualification Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of previous labour relations experience; worked within a unionized environment
  • Degree and/or diploma in Human Resources Management, Labour Relations from a recognized post-secondary institution, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • CHRL designation an asset
  • Strong solution-oriented decision-making and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to exceed internal and external guest expectations through timely, effective and service oriented communication
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Thorough knowledge of employment legislation and regulations
  • Fast learner, interested in continuous process improvement
  • Able to work independently and as part of a diverse team
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Effective persuasion and conflict resolution skills
  • The ability to successfully obtain a criminal record check through the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO)
  • Experience using a HRIS, an asset
