Reporting to the Senior Manager, Automotive and Mobility Innovation, the Industry Engagement Specialist, Automotive and Mobility is responsible for driving ecosystem collaborations in support of a skills and talent strategy for the automotive and mobility sector in Ontario. This individual will focus on the engagement of industry partners across Ontario’s ecosystem, as well as other key stakeholders including but not limited to academia, research partners, government, associations, and cross-jurisdictional organizations. The Industry Engagement Specialist will identify opportunities to forge strategic partnerships, define collaborations, and lead ecosystem outreach in support of talent and skills initiatives, pilots, and tactics. This will include but is not limited to supporting client involvement in the project, supporting cross-provincial consultations and events, managing regional pilots, and supporting the development of communications materials and success stories. This person will also provide insight on sector news, industry developments, and support additional activities related to the project.

Your contributions

  • Work with senior leadership to identify, coordinate and track ecosystem outreach and lead new networking and project opportunities in support of the strategy.
  • Engage, develop and maintain strong networks with stakeholders across the automotive and mobility sector and across regions in Ontario, including industry, post-secondary institutions, research partners, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Engage in extensive ecosystem networking to engage key ecosystem partners, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders with the aim of fostering collaboration and involvement in the strategy and identifying potential pilots to support skills and talent development in the sector
  • Identify and create partnership opportunities with industry and post-secondary institutions to support initiatives around talent development, talent attraction and retention, curriculum and/or learning content development etc.
  • Keep abreast of industry and/or domain knowledge and activities, including current events, breakthroughs, trends, regulatory issues and key contacts and possess a solid understanding of the global industry to support thought leadership in the area of skills and talent development.
  • Engage stakeholders in the creation and execution of industry-leading events and education opportunities (workshops, panels, best practices, etc.) as they relate to the strategy.
  • Identify and engage forward-thinking companies as collaborators within the region and within key areas of the automotive and mobility sector.
  • Assist with identification and targeted outreach to specific groups/sectors for engagement with the talent and skills activities and tactics in Ontario.
  • Fulfill specifically assigned responsibilities including: establishing and executing engagement plans; capturing key project information; engagement with regional innovation hubs, centres etc.; providing expert advice on the sector; and tracking opportunities and outcomes for strategy development and activities.
  • Collaborate in the planning, design, development, and deployment of project deliverables, partnership opportunities and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership, communicating opportunities and escalating risks when appropriate.
  • Interface and liaise with stakeholders; work cross-functionally across departments to assemble resources; work cooperatively and collaboratively with other project staff to ensure successful delivery of projects or programs.
  • Identify, develop and manage outcomes, and work with project staff to develop success stories and other communications opportunities
  • Other related duties as assigned, with occasional overtime as required with events outside of normal business hours, and occasional travel within Ontario.

Your Attributes:

  • Formal, specialized education (4-year university degree). Preference given to STEM or business education
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in the development and delivery of partnerships and execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Experience in the advanced automotive and mobility sector would be an asset.
  • Strong understanding of Ontario’s innovation ecosystem, technology, industry and industry clusters, commercialization support networks and programs, companies and associations.
  • Demonstrated ability and attitude for developing and managing relationships with diverse stakeholders, and ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external teams.
  • Business development and networking experience particularly working with senior level private and public sector representatives.
  • Superior project management skills, including planning and executing on strategic initiatives in order to accomplish goals and deliver outcomes within constraints such as time, budget, and quality standards.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with proven ability to develop strategic communications, promote programs and initiatives, and execute on education and awareness activities.
  • High degree of initiative, efficient, organized and able to produce high-quality work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage numerous conflicting and changing priorities simultaneously.
  • Innovative, enthusiastic and high-energy self-starter, with demonstrated experience taking initiative and capitalizing on opportunities.
  • Consummate professional, able to represent the organization in all circumstances.

Working Conditions:

  • Standard office hours
  • Overtime as required, including events to attend outside of normal business hours.
  • Frequent travel (60-80%) within Ontario.
