Job Description

Under the direction of the Recreation Programmer - Aquatics, the Aquatic Leadership Instructor/Trainer is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing high quality courses according to the certifying agency’s expectations and evaluation criteria that is engaging and enjoyable for all candidates. The Aquatic Leadership Instructor/Trainer is also responsible for the safety and wellbeing of registered candidates throughout the duration of the specified course.

Job Requirements
  1. Current qualifications to teach and/or examine the course being taught. Post-secondary education in youth/adult education an asset.
  2. Current holder of a Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification through one of the following agencies: Lifesaving Society (preferred), Canadian Ski Patrol, Red Cross, or Saint John’s Ambulance.
  3. Strong public relations, interpersonal, collaboration, organization, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  4. Ability to work with minimal supervision and to exercise sound judgement.
  5. Good knowledge of applicable legislation, bylaws, legal proceedings and the ability to interpret legislation, but not limited to Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Employment Standards Act.
  6. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with staff, general public, program participants and user groups.
  7. Exceptional customer service and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  8. Flexibility/availability to work flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends.
  9. Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
