What you’ll do

It’s safe to say, there’s no shortage of variety in what we do. Here are some key responsibilities of the role:

  • Supports Shift B - Friday to Sunday from 6:15am to 6:45pm
  • Accountable for the day to day support on HR programs and initiatives to support business operations for assigned shift at one DC facility, providing HR advice and guidance on policies, procedures and processes to comply with employment legislation and for union Associates, Collective Bargaining Agreement provisions.
  • Supports coordinated roll out of Corporate and HR programs, processes and initiatives ensuring Operations Management teams are informed, trained and have tools and resources for successful implementation; may manage smaller organizational change projects in collaboration with HRBP.
  • Partners with HRBP and Operations Management to develop a strong leadership and coaching culture that builds capability in the business that brings out the best in people; supporting an environment that fosters high performance, innovation, learning and initiative; supports a culture of accountability.
  • Conducts investigations on Associate Relations issues (e.g. RAT, Violence in the Workplace, Harassment and Discrimination Open Door, Human Rights etc.); supports Management in grievance process through to resolution and on the interpretation, application and administration of collective agreements to promote compliance; represents organization at arbitration hearings; partnering with HRBP and external legal counsel as needed.
  • Participates in joint meetings between the union and management; respond to queries, complaints, and concerns from union representatives and union leaders.
  • Coordinates and facilitates training in collaboration with HR COE partners on health and safety, onboarding, Collective Bargaining Agreement etc.
  • Supports internal union job posting process and Talent Acquisition recruitment planning process to fulfil short and longer term talent needs.

What you’ll need

To begin your career with us, you’ll have:

  • 5 years’ experience in Human Resources, working in union, labour relations environment preferred.
  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources, preferably in Industrial Relations, Law, Business Administration or similar relevant field; HR designation is an asset.
  • Minimum five (5) years demonstrated knowledge and experience in Associate and Labour Relations including application and administration of collective agreements and relevant employment related legislation and regulations.
  • Working knowledge in multiple human resource disciplines, including talent and performance management, workforce planning, organizational development, employee relations.
  • Strong facilitation, negotiation, problem solving and dispute resolution skills with ability to be creative, resourceful, and pragmatic with a solution-focused attitude.
  • Good collaboration skills with ability to develop effective working relationships by building credibility, respect and rapport to positively influence management and staff to act in the best interest of the Company.
  • Excellent interpersonal, people management and customer service skills to provide advice, guidance to respond to inquiries or resolve issues, conflicts or problems.
  • Strong project management skills utilizing multiple sources of information to develop project plans; knowledge of and ability to use project reporting systems an asset.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and appropriately manage highly sensitive information.
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, Oracle, Peoplesoft and Kronos Time Management systems experience preferred.
