Responsible for the effective implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental programs including safety committees, claims management, training and leadership in safe handling and use of company product, materials, and equipment, in accordance with the principles of the “Magna Employee’s Charter”.

Key Responsibilities

Monitors new and revised legislation and ensures Dortec’s compliance to legislated requirements.

Establishes written safety standards, reviews, and updates annually to secure compliance with all related legislative requirements and Magna Corporate policies.

Coordinates activities related to ISO 14001, ISO 45001 Environmental, Health and Safety Management System, and is accountable for successful conformance on all periodic ISO14001, ISO 45001 and Magna Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) audits.

Develops and provides leadership to, the ongoing maintenance, continuous improvement auditing and compliance to the ISO14001, ISO 45001 standard and Dortec’s Environmental, Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS).

Provides meaningful statistics and recommendations to management in a timely manner to ensure continual improvement of workplace health, safety culture and environmental controls.

Maintains Dortec’s ZeroHarm action list and takes a proactive approach to eliminating impacts, hazards, and risks.

Implements ergonomic assessments and improvements, chairs the Ergonomic Committee with the engineering manager

Provides leadership and direction for occupation hygiene concerns, hazardous material management, ergonomics, and environmental issues.

Schedules and maintains documentation for sanitary sewer testing and industrial hygiene monitoring.

Tracks and maintains waste manifests, waste characterizations and HWIN documentation

Provides leadership to the Joint Health and Safety Committee, (e.g., hazard identification and incident prevention) coordinates follow-up actions on the committee’s recommendations and manages documentation.

Coordinates the Health and Safety awareness and incentive program, ensuring monthly safety talks are done effectively.

Reviews all Injury/incident investigations and monthly inspection reports and provides leadership in developing corrective and preventative actions and ensuring closure of required actions.

Liases with Engineering and Maintenance departments to ensure safety and ergonomic compliance on all new and existing equipment through Management of change reviews.

Prepares Health, Safety and Environmental training needs analysis, development, and presentations to ensure adequate safety awareness at all levels of the organization.

Liaises with the HR team to ensure all job required safety training is complete and up to date.

Conducts formal company EHS orientation as needed.

Maintains strict confidentiality of all information obtained, written or verbal, within the Human Resources Department.

Follows and models safe working practices and promotes a ZeroHarm safety culture

Performs special projects as assigned.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Minimum completion of a post-secondary or diploma in a related field preferably in Occupational Health and Safety Management

2 years directly related experience or 5 years related manufacturing experience

C.R.S.P (Certified Registered Safety Practitioner), preferred

Sound Knowledge of all relevant Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
