This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community-based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director Quality Improvement, Safety and Patient Relations and through the Director to the Senior Director Quality Improvement, Safety and Patient Relations and in collaboration with the Senior Director Planning Performance and Accountability; the Quality Improvement & Safety Leader will provide leadership within NSHA’s overall provincial and zone programs for quality, safety, accreditation, infection prevention & control, patient relations, risk management; and responsibility to implement all aspects of comprehensive quality, patient safety, infection prevention & control, patient engagement, patient relations, risk and accreditation plans to achieve the best outcomes in health care program and service delivery, safe care and continuous improvement to meet or exceed all accreditation requirements.

The main focus of this position is Patient Relations. Nova Scotia Health Patient Relations helps create quality health care experiences for Patients and families by working with Patients/families, Team Members, and leadership to address individual and systemic issues of concern. Nova Scotia Health Patient Relations Department provides assistance to help answer Patient and family questions about Patient care and Experiences.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree from a health care profession program/discipline
  • Master's level preparation in a clinical health discipline, Health Services Administration, Business Administration or a related program an asset
  • Appropriate licensure/membership in professional organization
  • Certificate or training related to accreditation, quality, patient safety, risk management, or related program
  • Certified Health Executive is an asset
  • A minimum of five to seven years of quality and patient safety leadership experience, which includes 5 years of relevant clinical experience in a health care environment including expertise to critically review health records as part of the quality review process
  • Experience in planning and implementing a variety of strategic activities related to accreditation, safety, quality improvement, infection control and prevention practices, risk management and patient engagement, provided across several locations with multiple partners and stakeholders and while ensuring appropriate confidentiality
  • Experience with Accreditation standards and leading team(s) through Accreditation process
  • Experience engaging teams, leaders, medical staff, clinicians, patients/clients and stakeholders in a collaborative, participatory manner which supports the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the Quality & System Performance portfolio and the organization
  • Experience and demonstrated expertise in data management, data analysis and statistical manipulation; excellent report writing and presentation skills; application of word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and graphics software required; and experience in project management and program evaluation an asset
  • Demonstrated high degree of independent decision making, creativity, self-direction, motivation, change management and team building/ leadership skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency to autonomously assess situations, draw rational conclusions and develop relevant action plans with appropriate stakeholders and follow-up regarding implementation
  • Critical analysis skills (including but not limited to critical incident analysis, risk assessment and Failure Mode & Effects Analysis)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and commitment to confidentiality and privacy of NSHA patients and clients
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Salary Information

$38.8949 - $51.6799 hourly
