The HR Generalist will be applying his/her knowledge and experience in responding to a variety of matters relating to the employment life cycle.  With a commitment to service, integrity, safety, and team spirit, the incumbent will be an integral part of the Employment Support Services team, offering friendly and professional service to the employees of the Harbour Air Group.

WORK HOURS: Mondays to Fridays, regular office hours. 

LOCATION:  4760 Inglis Drive, Richmond, BC

TERM: Full-Time Regular

DEPARTMENT: Employment Support Services (ESS)

REPORTS TO: Employment Support Services Manager

Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Respond to employee enquires and concerns in a timely and customer focused manner
  • Provide information to employees on company policies, group benefits, Revenue Share, RRSP, and other corporate programs
  • Advise, coach, and support management on addressing various employment related issues including conflict resolution, employee relations, performance management, absence management, and termination processes
  • Establish effective employee relationships based on trust, experience, and integrity; support team to reach common goals
  • Prepare documents/agreements relating to the employment life-cycle, including new hires, transfers, terminations, changes, and the performance management process
  • Create and maintain personnel files in compliance with legal requirements
  • Ensure new hire paperwork is complete and follow up with appropriate parties when necessary
  • Monitor employment status of temporary and foreign workers and work with managers in ensuring compliance; track work permits and assist with documentation relating to the LMIA and work permit related processes; provide information regarding various types of work and study permits when needed
  • Process interline staff and partner airline travel requests
  • Assist with the talent acquisition process which may include attending career fairs, handling job postings, and interviews as needed
  • Provide HR services on location at Harbour Air's various locations
  • Organize learning opportunities for staff and management, as directed
  • Continually build and maintain knowledge and understanding of federal and provincial employment legislation to assist in ensuring corporate legal compliance
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned by the ESS Manager or VP of Finance


Required Skills & Competencies

  • Minimum 2-3 years of directly related HR experience, particularly in the areas of consultation and advising
  • Sound knowledge of the federal Canada Labour Code, BC Provincial Employment Standards, employment law, human rights, law, and various other legislation that impact the employment relationship
  • Highly approachable, positive, empathic, resourceful, and customer service oriented; must love people
  • Able to work well independently and in a team environment; proven track record for excellent team spirit
  • Excellent listening, verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Able to maintain and exercise a high degree of confidentiality relating to employee personal information and situations.  Must be able to exercise good judgement and discretion in all personnel related matters
  • Highly dependable, accountable, and able to prioritize appropriately in a rapidly changing and deadline driven environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word at an advanced level; Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint at an intermediate level
  • Knowledge of group life, disability, health insurance, and payroll
  • Able to travel locally during the day to Harbour Air's various bases and other locations
  • Completion or currently working on CPHR designation is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of HRIS and Payroll modules of MS Dynamics/Great Plains software is considered an asset
