The Human Resources Supervisor reports to the Human Resources Manager and is responsible for supervising the day-to-day Human Resources function ensuring customer service, consistency and efficiency across the departments and locations. The Human Resources Supervisor fosters an inclusive environment where people are respected for who they are and what they bring to the table.


Direct Supervision

  • Provide coaching and mentoring to HR team members
  • Manage HR Advisor performance and provide opportunities for growth and development
  • Ensure HR functions are performed in an effective, efficient, consistent, and timely manner
  • Assign tasks and ensure equal distribution of workload

Operational Support (Employee, Supervisor and Manager Support)

Direct support for assigned business area as well as escalated support for all departments

  • Coach and advise Employees, Supervisors and Managers regarding performance management, absenteeism, disability management, conflict resolution, progressive discipline, recognition, etc.
  • Coach and orient managers/supervisors to HR policies, processes and practices as required
  • Support and offer recommendations for Employee Relations Programs and HR systems and processes i.e., recognition, claims management, attendance and department and company wide innovation.

Workforce Management

  • Maintain the annual staffing budget
  • Analyse and escalate requests for additional staff
  • Manage temporary labour requirements and communicates requirements with contractor agencies
  • Monitors and reports on turnover issues

Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding

  • Provide recommendations and support for the creation and implementation of recruitment strategies and practices that effectively attract and identify quality talent to meet operational needs
  • Recruitment will include position focused, college recruitment, overseas recruitment, and job fair strategies
  • Work with Communications Coordinator on social media strategies
  • Research and prepare position descriptions, interview questions and assessment criteria for all positions within the company
  • Ensure appropriate vetting of all final candidates
  • Prepare offer letters in accordance with compensation policies
  • Ensure onboarding process is completed and present at in-class onboarding sessions

Compensation & Benefits

  • Administer and ensure consistent application of compensation policy
  • Answer inquiries about the compensation policy
  • Implement new benefits and updates as required

Performance Management

  • Manages Performance Management System, ensuring notification and tracking completion
  • Coach and assist People Leaders with Performance Management as required

Policies and Processes

  • Recommend new policies, update, correct and maintain the Employee Policy Manual
  • Interpret Employment Policy Manual for employees, supervisors, and managers.
  • Maintain Human Resources Process Handbook, ensuring consistent application of processes, work with process auditor to find, and correct discrepancies.

Disability Management

  • Manage Short Term Disability Claims
  • Manage Gradual Return to Work plans and accommodations


  • Assist with the annual Employment Equity and Pay Equity Reports
  • Ensure accuracy of data on internal communication portal, provide articles and updates on benefits, promotions, and other key messages
  • Assist with the organization of Employee Events

Any other duties as assigned by the Human Resources Manager


Required Experience and Knowledge

  • Degree in Human Resources or equivalent
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources
  • Minimum 10 years experience as a Human Resources Generalist
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a leadership role
  • Knowledge of progressive HR policies and practices
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint
  • Knowledge of Federal Labour Codes is considered an asset
  • Experience with HR Information Systems. Experience with ADP WFN is considered an asset
