GARDAWORLD is seeking an experienced coordinator to fill the role of Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator in our Protective Services Division in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Reporting to the Administrative Team Lead, the Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator will act as a business partner with the management team in the Pacific Region, by providing expertise Health & Safety. The branch Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the arrangements detailed in the Health and Safety Program and ensuring that all staff, employees and job sites are kept up to date on all Health and Safety related information and documentation.

Job Duties

-Ensure that all Health and Safety requirements as outlined in the Company Health & Safety Manuals are followed and adhered to by all departments, sites and officers.
-Ensure all Health and Safety training resources provided by the Senior Health and Safety Manager are provided to all branch departments and all employees.
-Ensure the Health and Safety program respects all applicable legislations.
-Maintain effective control of all Health and Safety requirements relation to operational duties.
-Ensure that preventive and correct actions are addressed promptly in conjunction with Branch Management.
-Ensure that a copy of the Health and Safety Policy and subsequent updates is given to all staff and job sites as required.
-Ensure that all employees receive adequate information, instruction and training relevant to undertaking their work safely and without risks to health.
-Notify the Regional Director and Regional Operations Manager, of any proposed changes to the operations, which will significantly alter the findings of the risk assessments and safe systems of work.
-Maintain all documents and reports. Forward any reports necessary to the Regional and National Safety Managers.
-Report all accidents, incidents and near-misses to required management and government agencies as required.
-Organize regular Health and Safety Meetings with branch management and staff to report on current happenings and Health and Safety updates, inclusive of monthly tool-box-talks.
-Support and carry out all Environmental procedures and issues.
-Ensure that a Branch Office Joint Health & Safety Committee is formed and active within the branch as outlined in Provincial/Federal Legislation and/or the local Union -Agreement (Terms of Reference).
-Where applicable ensure that the Terms of Reference – Union Agreement is followed as outlined and agreed to by the company.
-Maintain a complete listing of sites requiring a full operating JHSC and actively participate in meetings.
-When possible, sit on the Branch Office JHSC as a management member, actively participate ensuring that meetings take place regularly, every two months or as outlined per site contract.
-Review branch loss time claims and actively support Early and Safe Return to work program.
-Assist the Administrative Team Lead and Regional Operations Manager, with other operational requirements as needed and requested.

Education & Qualifications

-Degree or diploma in a related field (i.e. HSE or OH&S) and 1-2 years of prior experience in the field of Occupational Health and Safety
-Exemplary English skills, both verbal and written, with strong analytical and communication skills.
-Current OFA1 Certification or willingness to undergo training.
-Committed to maintaining mutually respectful relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
-A strong understanding of safety code, rules and regulations as they pertain to WorkSafeBC and provincial legislation.

-Ability to effectively manage time, responsibilities and priorities.
-Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and skills in keyboarding.
