Part of the HR Business partner team supporting Long-Term Care (LTC), the HR Business Advisor is responsible for supporting a Regional Director within Extendicare's Long-Term Care business. They provide coaching, guidance, direction and solutions working as part of the broader HR team on a broad spectrum of HR-related areas including employee relations, recruitment, performance management, compensation, benefits, HR policy, and metrics/reporting.
 
This role can be located remotely anywhere in Saskatchewan,  Manitoba or Alberta
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with business and Union to complete cross-functional tasks and resolve people matters including MOL Inquiries/disputes, employee issue resolution process and grievances.
  • Lead employee incident reviews and workplace investigations with operational leaders to ensure processes are completed with urgency and in a consistent, compliant and effective manner.
  • Support middle management with specialized HR advice, especially on ER/LR issues, issue resolution & dispute resolution - escalate to HRBPs and Labour Relations CoE as required
  • Monitor Leave of Absence/sick/infectious disease leaves providing regular reporting and updates
  • Provide sound advice on workplace policies & procedures and share knowledge appropriately on applicable legislation including but not limited to the ESA, LRA, OHSA, Provincial Human Rights Codes.
  • Provide interpretation advice and counsel and administration of the collective agreements as required.
  • Working closely with the H&S Partner, be an advocate for employee health and wellness and ensure we meet our obligations within the OHSA and other legislation to provide a safe workplace for all
  • Build and utilize working relationship with internal business partners across the organization and external contacts.
  • Manage relationships with Site/Facility managers and maintain a pulse on potential people related issues that could require further escalation
  • In collaboration with HR leadership, partner with client groups to understand operational needs; obtain feedback for program design and create HR solutions appropriate to their business.
  • Collaborate with peers and key business stakeholders to add to the collective innovative thinking that can drive new ideas and processes.
  • Develop and deliver training on HR-related topics to management, front line leaders and employees.
  • Provide recommendations, based on needs and gaps in HR approaches and services required to support the business, and develop a plan to address requirements.
  • Facilitate the implementation and equitable application of company policies, processes and programs and provide support to client groups in their administration.
  • Maintain/enhance awareness of HR best practices and emerging issues both internally and externally to ensure our practices are relevant, market-competitive and supportive of the Extendicare Employment Brand
  • Facilitate local HR communications and reporting on a regional level
  • Align with Site/Facility Management to provide support through the talent cycle (e.g. performance cycle)
  • Proactively identify and resolve trends & issues using business knowledge or data & analytics 
  • Work with business leaders to elevate knowledge of HR trends and leading practices, and provide insights around areas of opportunity for improvement or performance

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University Degree or completion of a College Diploma Program in Human Resources. CHRP designation an asset.
  • 5+ years of relevant HR/LR work experience within a Human Resources department with at least 3 years as an HR/LR generalist.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of human resources policy and practice and of relevant HR and employment-related legislation in applicable jurisdictions, including laws pertaining to Employment Standards and Human Rights.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and HRIS.
  • Proven experience working with both structured and unstructured organizations and matrixed environments.
  • High energy, a strong work ethic, resiliency, versatility and flexibility with a results orientation.
  • Background in community healthcare environment and familiarity with the LHINs would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of an organization.
  • Enjoys a challenge and committed to building a high-performance organization.
  • Excellent organizational, project management and execution skills to ensure successful delivery/implementation of HR projects, policies and processes.
