Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, as the Heath, Safety & Environment (HSE) Director, you will be responsible for the development, deployment and continuous improvement of the McIntosh Perry HSE program and management systems nationally. The position is strategic in nature and the focus will be on prevention by assessing risks, establishing controls and ensuring compliance with company and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with Operations to promote a positive HSE culture in line with our Core Values.

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • Providing strategic guidance to McIntosh Perry management on emerging trends in legislation and Ministry of Labour areas of interest related to our industry;
  • Providing leadership to the HSE team through actively promoting McIntosh Perry’s core values, policies and procedures;
  • Managing, leading and mentoring direct reports on the HSE team across Canada;
  • Supporting Joint Health & Safety Committees in regional offices;
  • Development and Implementation of strategic action plans;
  • Developing and updating HSE policies and procedures;
  • Developing HSE performance measures and metrics as well as interpreting results;
  • Coaching and directing leaders on how to improve HSE performance including providing a field presence;
  • Coordinating accident investigations and workers compensation reporting, claims management analyzing trends;
  • Develop HSE inspection and audit plans in collaboration with project managers;
  • Overseeing the company’s application and maintenance of all external audit systems such as COR, ISNetworld and others; and
  • Complete a needs analysis for HSE training and advise and implement training requirements.


  • A Bachelor’s degree, diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field;
  • Minimum of 10 years health and safety experience in the Engineering Consulting or Construction sector;
  • Additional qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety is an asset;
  • Demonstrated progressive work experience in health and safety management;
  • Working knowledge with Occupational Health and Safety legislation in various Canadian jurisdictions affecting the Consulting Engineering industry;
  • Working knowledge of workers’ compensation processes and return to work practices;
  • Have a proven track record of enhancing and influencing organizational commitment to safety;
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to direct and work effectively as part of a team; highly motivated self-starter; detail-oriented with an ability to think through problems creatively;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Possess a valid minimum class G driver’s license and have access to a vehicle that has valid registration and insurance; and
  • Travel within North America will be required.
