About this opportunity:

The Talent Management team has an excellent opportunity for a Group Lead, Talent Management and Learning. Reporting into the Manager, Talent Management and Learning, this role is responsible for leading, motivating and developing a culture of continuous learning solutions initiatives across Cenovus.

They will work closely with key stakeholders/partners and process owners to understand improvement opportunities and to size, scope, and generate business cases that support the implementation of Learning Solutions. Managing process improvement projects, as well as providing leadership and support to Process Owners, Process Managers and project teams is a key accountability of this role. As each new Learning Solution is implemented, the Learning Services Group Lead is accountable for ensuring that the appropriate metrics are in place.

As an ideal candidate, you will have experience interfacing with the business and collaborating within a team environment to support the learning needs for all of Cenovus. You will work closely and effectively with Clients within the business, Learning Advisors and HRBP’s to deliver high-impact learning and develop programs that contribute to Cenovus’s business performance as measured by the balanced scorecard.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement a learning development process and methodology along with key performance indicators (KPIs), reporting, and governance mechanisms.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and management for the Talent Management Learning solutions team to ensure the successful delivery of learning and training initiatives.
  • Identify and manage risks for all learning initiatives and ensure that the appropriate risk mitigation controls are in place.
  • Engage with and gain the trust of our clients to identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and deliver service excellence, leading to improved business productivity.
  • Ensure the goals of various learning programs are achieved through the assessment of all learning activities against original requirements.
  • Accountable for the financial management of learning development initiatives. This includes participation in the budgeting cycle and month spend forecasting.
  • Work with SCM and contract business partners in the creation and implementation of service orders and agreements with 3rd party venders to maximize our buying power and ROI.
  • Collaborate with the learning administrators to refine existing reports and add new reports to ensure that the appropriate measurements are in place
  • Act as the initiating point of contact for all learning requests and the liaison between business clients, contractors and service providers
  • Collaborate with HRBP’s and learning Advisors on Learning Needs Analysis
  • Develop monthly operational metrics
  • Communicate project timelines and challenges to Clients key stakeholders and HRLT
  • Ensure design and development methods are based on agreed-upon, recognized industry and discipline standards to maintain consistency across projects
  • Evaluate training programs and materials to ensure business requirements are met
  • Research and implement training development and eLearning tools, and best practices to maximize training effectiveness
  • Optimize education opportunities by understanding business needs across the organization and planning to deliver in the most efficient manner to all skill levels
  • Manage individual contributors, contractors and service providers to identify and implement standards that meet client goals and learning objectives
  • Oversee the day to day activities of the learning services team including training scheduling, 3rd party training vendor sourcing and evaluation, reporting and record keeping for compliance
  • Oversee Alberta job grant requests and the educational assistance program
  • Governance and management of the LMS, external portal as well as all related records and content.

Qualifications:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field (Business Administration, Human Resources, Adult Learning)
  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in training and development field with a specialization in instructional design, multimedia development and learning management systems.
  • Advanced project and budget management experience, logistics/planning and change management skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in contract law and vendor sourcing
  • Experience in an Oil and Gas setting is an asset
  • Capable of handling sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Skilled in integrating services into the customer value-chain
  • Interpersonal skills: Strong inter-personal and collaboration skills with the ability to interact at all levels, while building and strengthening positive relationships
  • Strategic Thinking: The ability to develop strategic direction to further evolve learning based on industry trends and client feedback
  • Communication: Exceptional written, verbal communication, and listening skills, with an ability to interact with all levels of the organization and express a well-thought-out point of view
  • Problem Solver: Collaborative problem solver with the ability to multi-task and prioritize and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Fostering Teamwork: Ability and desire to work cooperatively with others on a team and to influence, negotiate with, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders

  • Project Management: Proven ability to effectively manage fluctuating workloads and optimize available resources to meet changes priorities and deadlines, putting our clients’ needs ahead of every decision. Results orientated with the ability to achieve objectives and deliver within tight timelines
  • Leadership: Ability to influence and establish strong working partnerships at all levels to achieve measurable result
