Job Title: Payroll Supervisor
Position Type: Full-Time and Permanent

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Supervisor is responsible for the delivery of payroll services by providing extensive payroll expertise, excellent customer service; as well as assisting with the daily supervision of Payroll Analysts. This position administers pay and benefits services to the Executive and Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for the month end checklist. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Aiding in supervision of payroll analysts.
  • Communicates with employees and department contacts.
    • Provides payroll and benefits information to employees such as earnings, source deductions or benefit forms and information
    • Significant contact (internal and external) for problem solving and conflict/complaint resolution
  • Internal controls and audits.
    • Ensure effectiveness of ongoing internal controls by designing adequate testing procedures with guidance, performing testing, reviewing testing, and working with process owners to remediate any weaknesses
    • Validate team performs regular tasks by reviewing and following up on the month end checklist
    • Complete monthly GL Reconciliations for Labour Paid/Applied, RRSP and Retro accruals
    • Provide back up and peer review of all hourly rate increases and earning changes (signs off on checklist)
    • Assists in preparation of T4’s and T2200’s of year end slips and processing of adjustments
  • Processes payroll for Executive and SLT employees in accordance with all existing policies, procedures, regulations and legislation.


The successful candidate will have a minimum of 7 years progressive accounting experience, with at least 4 years in a complex role. The position also requires a CPA designation or similar formal training. Other qualifications include:

  • Experience with full cycle payroll within an HRIS system.
  • Analytical skills required to reconcile complex payroll concerns.
  • Knowledge of integrated financial information systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite i.e. excel, word, power point, etc.
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment with strict deadlines and tight schedules.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to mentor and guide others. Supervisory experience is required.
