Why Are Millennials Bored at Work?

Boredom at work affects many millennials. Why?

Born between 1980 and 2000, millennials (or Generation Y) are arriving on the job market in massive numbers and holding more and more important positions. Positions they don’t hesitate to quit if boredom strikes… Here are the factors that cause them boredom.

Lack of challenges

Better educated than preceding generations and born with technology, Generation Y learns quickly and excels in “multitasking” mode. They master what they are happy doing, but it quickly tires them. A study by the Toluna group shows that the source of boredom for millennials is the lack of challenges and the inability to acquire new skills.

Lack of meaning

When a millennial asks why certain tasks are done and is answered stupidly, “because that’s the way it’s always been done”, he might just run away. Indeed, all the studies on the subject say the same thing: meaning is more important in their eyes than the pay.

Lack of flexibility

Often working on a computer, the millennial detests staying at work “from 9 to 5”, when his tasks are completed or could be done from home, from a café or from an island in Thailand. According to a PwC report, 66% of millennials are seeking flexibility of time and place.
