Features

CUSO (Canadian University Students Overseas) was born in the early 1960s from the dream of a group of Canadian students who wanted to fight inequality and poverty in emerging countries in Central America, South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. They then go to the field, to offer services that are still little developed or non-existent to local populations and to work in associations in the education, health and development sectors. The mission of the volunteers sent on the spot has evolved over the years: in a concern of sustainable development, they are now in charge of transmitting their know-how and training local actors, so that they themselves are part of their development, and may occupy functions indispensable to the improvement of the living conditions of their populations.

Employees

CUSO relies on a network of volunteers. The first volunteers were often teachers or medical staff. They are now more and more experienced and highly qualified to coordinate and manage large missions and projects. For example, the organization regularly searches for candidates to conduct business development assignments, communications consultants, business analysts, or experienced IT technicians. Volunteers receive financial support, in preparation, during, and upon return from their mission: training, support for their airfare, accommodation, vaccines and insurance, on-site living allowance, intermediate tickets (in the case of longer missions).

Workplace

The spirit of self-help, diversity, and open-mindedness prevail among the volunteers at CUSO. Employees show a friendly atmosphere, and the opportunity to work with motivated, involved and energetic teams.

Missions can sometimes confront candidates in destabilizing or confusing environments, but they are always rich in lessons. The many challenges offer an opportunity for professional and personal development, and immersion allows you to learn new ways of working and to develop new angles of approach or a new way of seeing things.

Corporate culture

Self-help, diversity, and open-mindedness prevail among the volunteers at CUSO. Employees can testify to a friendly atmosphere, and the opportunity to work with motivated, involved and energetic teams.

Tolerance, respect, equality are values in line with CUSO's concerns and are instigated among its volunteers.

Organization has made transparency one of its duties, both to value the work of its teams and to clarify the use of the contributions of its donors.
