Employee relocation – a reality for one in four companies in 2013

Volumes of relocations increased in 2012, incentive measures to convince employees to relocate… The trend towards company relocation is being confirmed around the world, according to a survey conducted by Atlas Van Lines, moving specialist.

If forecasts are to be believed, close to six companies out of ten are expecting similar numbers and budgets for relocation in 2013 as in 2012, and close to one quarter (27%) forecast an increase, according to 415 employers who responded to this study worldwide. These are positive signs of economic recovery after having had a major fall in the aftermath of the crisis.

Relocation = company in growth

In the past year, companies relocated on average between 20 and 49 people. For 46% of them company growth had the most significant effect on the number of people relocated. On the other hand, companies seem will aware of the potential impact on relocation for the persons concerned. Most of them offer full reimbursement of the costs incurred by existing employees (63%) and new hires (53%).

 

 

Housing allowances, premiums…

Reluctance to change seems to be declining. Nonetheless, 54% of employees refused an offer to move in 2012. To correct this situation, a great majority of companies (76%) indicate that they have provided incentive measures to encourage relocation by their employees. Among these are extending temporary housing benefits, relocation premiums, protection from selling loses and cost of living adjustments.

In general, employees and new hires struggle to accept a company’s offer to move for a number of reasons: problems relating to housing and mortgages (65%), fear of losing family connections (61%) and a partner’s job (45%).
