Members include integrated electric utilities, independent power producers, transmission and distribution companies, power marketers, manufacturers, and suppliers of materials, technology, and services. The Opportunity This role leads two national, member-facing portfolios: occupational health and safety (OHS) and human resources (HR). Working across technical, operational, policy and workforce matters, the Manager supports committees and networks, advances continuous improvement and strengthens collaboration among members and external partners. This full-time position, based in Ottawa, Ontario, requires at least 4 years of related work experience and a strong knowledge of both subject areas, including OHS management systems, performance measurement approaches, and the implementation of best management practices. Key Responsibilities: Occupational Health and Safety Lead the annual OHS program work plan, translating member priorities and emerging sector risks into clear deliverables, timelines and outcomes. Manage and advise the Safety Executive Committee and supporting network, enabling focused discussion, decision-making, follow-through, and the exchange of leading practices. Oversee the collection, validation, analysis and reporting of safety performance. Identify and facilitate the sharing of effective practices in areas such as safety management systems, safety culture, contractor safety, psychological safety, and learning from incidents. Produce executive briefings, presentations and thought leadership that communicate OHS results, risks, lessons learned and opportunities for improvement. Manage the annual safety awards and nomination process, including criteria, evaluation support and recognition activities. Build relationships with safety organizations, research bodies and other partners to strengthen sector learning, collaboration and credibility. Monitor relevant provincial OHS legislation, regulations, standards and policy developments; assess implications and provide concise, timely intelligence to members. Human Resources Program Lead the annual HR and workforce program work plan, aligning activities with member priorities. Manage and advise the Human Resources Committee and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Network to support meaningful member engagement and action-oriented outcomes. Monitor workforce trends and policy developments affecting the electricity sector, including labour availability, skills, talent pipelines, workforce planning, attraction and retention, leadership development, and workplace practices. Design and administer member polls and surveys; analyze findings and translate them into practical insights. Develop evidence-based submissions to government, policy positions, briefing materials, presentations, speaking notes and thought leadership on workforce issues. Convene members and external partners to share practices, identify common challenges and explore scalable sector solutions. Build relationships with governments, educational institutions, labour market organizations, industry associations, and other partners to advance electricity-sector workforce priorities. Organize the annual Labour Relations Symposium. Committee Management Coordinate committee deliverables, project timelines, member engagement activities, and reporting requirements to ensure the work plan objectives are met. Plan, facilitate, and support committee meetings (virtual and in-person), including agenda development, meeting materials, minutes, action tracking, and follow-up. Coordinate reporting, progress updates, and forward-looking work plans for internal governance bodies, as required. Ensure content and editorial accuracy of documents before final publication/submission/or sharing with members and other external stakeholders. Ensure that committee activities align with Electricity Canada’s governance practices. Update and maintain committee distribution lists. Support the organization, documentation, and continuous improvement of committee processes, work planning, and information management (including SharePoint). The ideal candidate has a university degree or a college diploma in a safety- and human resources-related field with at least 4 years of relevant experience in OHS, HR, or workforce programs, ideally in an association, regulated industry, utility, public-sector, or member-service environment. In addition, the candidate will be an excellent written and oral communicator who is comfortable navigating technical, operational, policy, and industry issues. The candidate must be organized, efficient, and independent. This position is a one-year contract with the potential for renewal. The successful candidate will be required to work out of the downtown office at least two days a week. The pay range for this position is $73,000 to $77,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
