Bell Globemedia pulls out of Workopolis

On October 26, soldall the shares it still possessed in , the web site it created in 1998. The buyers are Gesca, a subsidiary of Power Corporation which owns La Presse and six other Canadian newspapers, and Torstar, a media group owner of the Toronto Star.

Before the transaction, Bell Globemedia held 40% of Workopolis, another 40% by Torstar and 20% by Gesca. Torstar and Gesca have spent respectively $30 million and $90 million in order to increase their own interests to fifty percent. The transaction valued Workopolis at $300 million.

Job board: Workopolis official Olympic Games supplier

On October 3, 2006, Workopolis announced its official selection by VANOC, the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 21st winter Olympic Games in 2010. The generalist job board is therefore the exclusive supplier of online recruiting for the Vancouver Games. It will work to fill 25,000 volunteer, 3,500 temporary and 1,200 full-time positions by 2010. In a little over three years, VANOC must grow from 275 employees to over 30,000 people, of whom only 16% will be paid. Workopolis is one of the volunteers that will be providing its services free of charge, in return for increased visibility during the Games.

Job board: CallCenterjob.Ca celebrates its first anniversary

CallCenterjob.Ca, the Canadian job board specializing in call centre and customer service jobs, today celebrates its first year in business. It now has over 150 clients, including Telus, Fido, Rogers, Vidéotron, Sears, Teleperformance, Standard Life, Purolator, Staples, Canada Trust and SHL, and boasts some 200 postings. About 12,000 candidates visit the site each month to find incoming calls agent, to supervisor and. underlying support systems specialist jobs.

"CallCenterjob.Ca took off very quickly," commented Manuel Francisci, President.
